Boma Prize for Africa – Gives $20,000+ Grant Opportunity to MSME’s Across Africa

Boma Consult LCC, in partnership with the Douglas Kintsukuroi Foundation, has announced the launch of “The Boma Prize for Africa” initiative. This initiative seeks to catalyse job creation, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment across Africa, thus contributing significantly to the continent’s economic development and improved livelihoods.

Officially set to commence on March 10th, 2024, the initiative is a year-long competition across the continent, aimed at fostering youth empowerment, business education, and the growth of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs).

Additionally, the Boma Prize for Africa Initiative aims to empathise, inspire, and support Africans across all 54 countries, through an annual pitch contest developed on the foundations of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

According to the organizers, the brand is committed to supporting ‘Goal 8’ of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on promoting inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.

Inspired by the untapped potential of African innovators and entrepreneurs, Ms. Blessing Douglas, President and Founder of the Boma Prize for Africa, envisions the platform as a catalyst for sustainable development through local innovation.

She stated in a recent release, “We believe in the power of entrepreneurship to transform lives and communities. The Boma Prize for Africa is our way of supporting the next generation of African innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers.”

Nancy Potok, Former Chief Statistician of the United States lauded Blessing’s contributions to improving society. As a proud sponsor of the initiative, she shared some comments, “I am very impressed with what the Boma Prize for Africa team is accomplishing. It’s a privilege to support such a meaningful cause.”

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), the backbone of the African economy, face numerous challenges including high operational costs, limited access to financing, and inadequate infrastructure. Despite these hurdles, MSMEs are a critical force for economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation, accounting for 60% of jobs and contributing about 50% of Sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP. The Boma Prize aims to address these challenges by providing MSMEs with the necessary mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities to thrive.

Blessing further revealed her drive to empower emerging African entrepreneurs, picking inspiration from Mother Teresa’s famous quote : ‘I alone cannot change the world, but | can cast a stone across the water to create ripples.’ We are creating ripples right now.”
