Empowerment of Women Central to Building a Better World – Patience Ndidi

As the Governorship Candidate for the People’s Redemption Party in Edo State, Nigeria, Patience Ndidi Key (Uwagboe) reflects on the profound significance of Mother’s Day, celebrated globally on May 12, 2024.

“This occasion is a profound reminder of the pivotal role women play in every facet of society,” says Patience Ndidi. “Not only as mothers but as leaders, innovators, and visionaries.”

In her statement, Patience Ndidi calls for the recognition and elevation of women who are forging paths in governance and leadership worldwide. She highlights exemplary women leaders such as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand, President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of the United States.

Drawing attention to Nigeria’s rich history of women in leadership, Patience Ndidi acknowledges notable figures such as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Amina J. Mohammed, Obiageli Ezekwesili, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Folorunso Alakija, Arunma Oteh, Blessing Ibukun Awosika, Pastor Bimbo Odukoya, and Grace Alele-Williams.

“These women exemplify that leadership knows no gender and should not be constrained by outdated stereotypes,” states Patience Ndidi.

Patience Ndidi also addresses the divisive myth that women do not support each other, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and mentorship among women leaders.

“As we move forward, let us shift our perspective to recognize the everyday contributions of women around us,” urges Patience Ndidi. “Let us commit to empowering women every day, fostering an environment where young girls can aspire to any role without limitation or prejudice.”

Patience Ndidi calls upon citizens of Edo State and beyond to join her in the commitment to women’s leadership, advocating for the amplification of women’s voices and the celebration of their achievements.

“In empowering women, we empower humanity,” concludes Patience Ndidi.
